There are probably a number of different ways to get six-pack abdominal muscles that have worked for somebody, but you’d probably agree that the best way to get abs is the method that works the fastest, and works for almost everybody. I mean, why take a year to do something that can be done in three months, right? Then again, some people use methods that’ll never give them a six-pack, no matter how long they do them.

If you’ve ever belonged to a gym, you’ve probably seen people who spend the majority of their workout time doing crunches, leg lifts, situps, torso twists, and hitting all the ab machines. The funny thing is, most of these people never get a decent set of abs. Why? because having a great set of abs is mainly about removing the fat that covers the ab muscles. If you don’t do something about the fat, you could build the greatest-looking set of ab muscles ever, but nobody will ever see them – and for most people, the whole idea is to see them, although having a strong set of core muscles is certainly a worthwhile goal. Anyway, there are much better exercises you can do in the gym that will maximize your metabolism and fat-burning capabilities. Movements like squats, deadlifts, overhead presses, lunges, kettlebell work, pushups chinups, and many more. Direct ab exercises shouldn’t be eliminated, but they shouldn’t be your main focus if you want abs.

So then we should burn the fat covering our abs off by spending countless hours on the treadmill and elliptical machine, right? Well, that might work, but it sometimes is actually counterproductive, and whether it works or not, it involves way too much time for most people. Doing what’s called ‘interval training’, where we work very hard for a short time, interspersed with rest periods, allows us to cut our exercise time way down and get better results to boot!

Most people trying to get a set of six-pack abs will also try to change their diet to low calorie, or low carb, or low fat, or some combination. That may work, to some degree, if you do some research first. Just be aware that many of the foods sold in supermarkets as health foods will pack the fat on your belly as fast or faster than a double pepperoni pizza. Some of the common thinking about food is just wrong. As a matter of fact, eating certain types of fat can actually help you lose bodyfat.

Supplement companies make a lot of money selling pills that are supposed to help you get lean. Besides the fact that most of these claims are baseless hype, some of this stuff can be downright dangerous. If I’m going to take supplements, I want them to promote my health, not endanger it.

And you probably know it already, but spending your money on some infomercial ab gizmo is unlikely to get you anything other than a new place to hang your clothes. The models in the commercials had flat bellies and six-pack abs before they ever set eyes on the gizmo, and the fine print always states the ‘regular people’ who saw some results always used the ab whatsis in combination with a reduced calorie diet. So on this site we’re going to try and present viewpoints regarding the best way to get abs and/or a flat belly that actually have a chance of working for regular people like you and me.
